At Zaporizhzhia NPP the conference on “Preventing Corruption and Anti-Corruption Enforcement in Ukraine: How to Change the System and Achieve Result” was held

In December 9-10, 2019, at Zaporizhzhia NPP Cultural and Business Center, the conference on “Preventing Corruption and Anti-Corruption Enforcement in Ukraine: How to Change the System and Achieve Result” was held with the participation of Gayane Karakashian, Head of the Secretariat of the All-Ukrainian Network of Integrity and Compliance UNIC; Oleksiy Spivak, a representative of the Business Ombudsman Council; Roman Hekalyuk, USAID Expert on Supporting Corporate Leaders in Anti-Corruption Enforcement in Ukraine, specialists of SE “NNEGC “Energoatom”, representatives of Ukrainian companies, academics of the higher educational institutions, business partners of SE “NNEGC “Energoatom”, and others.

During the two days, the conference participants listened to a number of reports on the topic of preventing corruption and anti-corruption enforcement, namely: “Practical tools for introducing anticorruption compliance in a production company”, “Using open sources and software in corruption detection”, “Accusers in corruption prevention. Novels in Anti-Corruption Legislation”, “International Experience in Anti-Corruption Enforcement”, and others.

In addition, within the framework of the conference a working meeting was held with participation of the heads of departments and authorized persons on corruption prevention and counteraction of separate entities of SE “NNEGC “Energoatom”.

According to Oleg Polischuk, Director on Corruption Prevention and Counteraction - Advisor of the President of SE “NNEGC “Energoatom”, the event held in the form of a conference was useful and productive, because the participants of the event had the opportunity to exchange their own experience, gain some knowledge and useful information, emphasize attention on topical issues in anti-corruption enforcement. “The most relevant topic is the issue of declaring, because this is the first thing that officials have to do since January 1 next year. We have to teach, tell, inform them on what will be done. The second relevant topic is the issue of accusers. This area is changing a lot, so we need to be aware of this issue,” Oleg Polishchuk said.

By implementing standards of compliance policy and corporate ethics, SE “NNEGC “Energoatom” aims to become the most innovative and competitive electricity generation company in Europe, with the highest standards of transparency and accountability to society, to create zero tolerance for corruption in the utility as well in the everyday life of each employee of the nuclear power industry.

“The utility “Energoatom” among the state companies is a flagship in anti-corruption work. It is the first state enterprise which signed a memorandum with UNIC, the first state-owned enterprise which approved the anti-corruption program at one time, and that program was largely exemplary,” Roman Hekalyuk, an expert of the “Interaction” USAID Project, emphasized.
