The Fuel Inspection and Maintenance Bench was presented at the Ordinary Board of Ukrainian NPPs Chief Engineers

In Odessa, on the basis of the Odessa National Polytechnic University, the Ordinary Board of Ukrainian NPPs Chief Engineers was held. Dmytro Sabadin, Chief Engineer of Zaporizhzhia NPP took part in the work as the Board Chairman, presenting in details Fuel Inspection and Maintenance Bench.

The Fuel Inspection and Maintenance Bench was prepared by SE “Atomremontservice” for the Board of NPPs Chief Engineers. The developer of that bench is Westinghouse. But the specialists of “Atomremontservice” mastered its use in 2016, and since then they have independently inspected Westinghouse Nuclear Fuel (FA-W/WR).

“The Fuel Inspection and Maintenance Bench is mobile. It has been used many times at South Ukrainian and Zaporizhzhia NPPs, and it is planned to use it at Rivne Nuclear Power Plant in the nearest future. Currently, the capabilities of the Fuel Inspection and Maintenance Bench are being fully in use. The equipment of the bench can be used for revision, inspection and maintenance of the assemblies,” Dmytro Sabadin said.

It is also important that the Fuel Inspection and Maintenance Bench is being upgrading to allow inspection of not only the US but also Russian fuel (FA-A).

In addition, Dmytro Sabadin made a presentation of the results of Zaporizhzhia NPP experts' research activities, obtained through the use of the water-radiochemical laboratory mass spectrometer, allowing determination of silver content, and he suggested actions to solve the problem of the 110th silver isotope increase in coolant.

Besides, the Board of NPPs Chief Engineers discussed the issues related to the utility activities in the conditions of the new electricity market as well as implementation of modification of the increase of the nominal output up to 101.5% at Ukrainian NPPs.
