Preparation for the WANO mission continues at Zaporizhzhia NPP

The World Association of Nuclear Operators (WANO) Peer Review is planned to be held at the Zaporizhzhia NPP in the second half of October 2020.

According to the methodology of conducting the mission, the Peer Review Team Leader and Coordinators had to arrive with the  previous visit to the site of ZNPP six months ago.

But because of the quarantine measures implemented at the state level, the parties were forced to cancel the meeting and adopt an online communication format.

Yuriy Kulba was appointed to the position of Acting General Manager of Zaporizhzhia NPP by the Order of the State Enterprise “NNEGC “Energoatom”, dated April 02, 2020

Yuriy Kulba graduated from Bauman Moscow Higher Technical School with degree in Energy Machines and Installations.

After graduation in 1984, he was accepted to the position of Reactor Operator at Zaporizhzhia NPP Reactor Department. He worked at all the stages of operational management at Operations Department, from the Reactor Department Shift Supervisor to the Deputy Technical Director for Operations – Operations Department Head.

Zaporizhzhia NPP Unit 1: there are 200 billion kWh of electricity!

Zaporizhzhia NPP Unit 1 has generated 200 billion kWh of electricity since the beginning of its operation.

Zaporizhzhia NPP is a significant component of the fuel and energy sector of Ukraine. Annually, the most powerful power generating enterprise in the south-eastern region of Ukraine - Zaporizhzhia NPP - generates more than 23% of the total electricity production in country.

Zaporizhzhia NPP Unit 2 has generated 200 billion kWh of electricity since the beginning of its operation.

"This milestone is a reflection of the stable work of the entire staff of the plant. Our main task is safe, reliable and efficient production of electricity, which we fulfil with strict observance of the requirements of Ukrainian and international rules, norms and standards on nuclear, radiation and environmental safety,” said Petro Kotin, General Manager of Zaporizhzhia NPP.

New appointment at Zaporizhzhia NPP

By the Order of Zaporizhzhia NPP dated March 13, 2020, No. 768-k, Deputy Chief Engineer for Technology and Engineering Igor V. Murashov was transferred to the position of Chief Inspector.

Igor V. Murashov has a higher education, degree: "Engineer for operation and repair organization". In 1998 he started working at Zaporizhzhia NPP as the 6th group Reactor Operator, Operations Department, after graduation from Sevastopol Institute of Nuclear Energy and Industry.

The implementation of Westinghouse fuel at Unit 5 remains a top priority for the Nuclear Safety Department (NSD) for 2020. This work is considered the most significant. The trial fuel operation is underway.

WANO representatives hold training workshop at SE Zaporizhzhia NPP

In frames of preparation to WANO peer review, representatives of World Association of Nuclear Operators organization started the three day training workshop on «WANO peer review methodology». The delegation works under the direction of Director of WANO Moscow Center Mr. Vasyl Aksyonov.

SE ZNPP General Manger Mr. Petro Kotin stated in his opening speech that this training workshop is very important for our site to provide training of SE Zaporizhzhia NPP experts.

SE Zaporizhzhia NPP Instrumentation and Control Department Engineer Mr. Yevgen Kalinichenko won in IAEA International Competition on writing the best essay on nuclear physical protection. His creative work is called: «Emergence of technological threats and capabilities in area of nuclear physical protection in digital century».

IAEA routine inspection is conducted at SE Zaporizhzhia NPP

During the period form February 12 to February 15, 2020, International Atomic Energy Agency inspectors conduct regular routine inspection at SE Zaporizhzhya NPP power unit №6, which is now currently stopped for the interim overhaul. The inspection is conducted in frames of International Agreement on Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons between Ukraine and IAEA.

WANO Technical Support Mission ended up at Zaporizhzhia NPP

WANO Technical Support Mission on “Application of risk-informed approaches (risk-monitoring) for maintenance and repair optimization during power unit operation at power” took place at Zaporizhzhia NPP.

This project is implemented at Unit 2 with international technical assistance of USA Government. The primary objective is to increase the utilization factor of installed capacity by means of security important systems repair, during power unit operation at power and to reduce the duration of outages without security diminution.
