The ALARA Committee Meeting was conducted at Zaporizhzhia NPP

Zaporizhzhia NPP hosted the ALARA Committee Meeting, which summed up the results of radiation protection and radiation safety in 2020 and outlined further areas of activities.

The monitoring of individual and collective doses of external radiation to the personnel of Zaporizhzhia NPP and contractors is carried out on the basis of the ALARA principle formulated by the IAEA. The implementation of the ALARA methodology is one of the important elements of the safety culture at nuclear power plants.

Unit 5 of Zaporizhzhia NPP has generated 200 billion kWh of electric power since the beginning of its operation.

“This event is another clear confirmation of the importance and necessity of extending the lifetime of the power units of Ukrainian NPPs, without which it is impossible to achieve such significant production results. The personnel of Zaporizhzhia NPP continue to make every effort for safe, reliable and efficient production of electric power,” said Acting General Manager of Zaporizhzhia NPP Yurii Kulba.

The specialists of Zaporizhzhia NPP participated in the WANO Workshop on the topic: “Operational decision-making”

Zaporizhzhya NPP hosted the Workshop of the World Association of Nuclear Power Plant Operators, the topic of which was operational solutions. That Workshop was held online for the first time.

The event was attended by representatives of Zaporizhzhia NPP Operations Department, Power Reactor Chief Specialist Service, Water Radiochemical Laboratory, Oversight Department, Training Center.

The representatives of other nuclear power plants and the SE “NNEGC “Energoatom” management also took part in the WANO workshop.

SE «Zaporizhzhia NPP» and Energodar Municipal Council signed a memorandum of cooperation. The signing took place on January 29, 2021 in the building of the Energodar Municipal Council.

Zaporizhzhia NPP Unit 5 is on the grid: +10 years of energy stability, + 700 additional MW in the unified power system of Ukraine

On January 15, 2021, at 00:24, after 274 days of comprehensive interim overhaul, during which all agreed measures were taken to extend the service life and increase the level of safety, Zaporizhzhia NPP Unit 5 was connected to the grid. Power ascension is underway.

NNEGC Energoatom received a license to extend the service life of Zaporizhzhia NPP Unit 5

Hryhoriy Plachkov, Head of SNRCU - Chief State Inspector for Nuclear and Radiation Safety of Ukraine, presented the Acting President of NNEGC "Energoatom" Petro Kotin the license for operation of the nuclear facility of ZNPP Unit 5, which sets the date of the next periodic safety reassessment of the power unit - May 27, 2030.

The Head of SNRCU signed and sealed the document in the presence of the Utility Head Petro Kotin, the Director of the SNRCU Department for Nuclear Safety Borys Stolyarchuk and the Chief Engineer of Zaporizhzhia NPP Igor Murashov.

The service life of Zaporizhzhia NPP Unit 5 has been extended

On January 4, 2021 in the online conference mode, the meeting of the SNRCU Board took place. It was dedicated to the extension of ZNPP Unit 5 in the beyond the design period based on the results of periodic safety reassessment.

The report on the readiness of ZNPP Unit 5 of ZNPP to extend the service life was made by Acting General Manager of Zaporizhzhia NPP Yuriy Kulba. He reported on the implementation of a set of works to assess the technical condition of equipment, improve and re-assess safety, replacement of equipment that has exhausted its resource.

Zaporizhzhia NPP hosts a delegation headed by Acting President of NNEGC “Energoatom” Petro Kotin

A delegation of representatives of the Utility Management Board headed by Acting President of NNEGC “Energoatom” Petro Kotin arrived at Zaporizhzhya NPP on a working visit.

The program of the visit is varied and includes all important activities of Zaporizhzhia NPP, and all the facilities of the plant to be visited are closely combined into one ultimate goal – improvement of safety and reliability of both Zaporizhzhia NPP and the united power grid of Ukraine.

The visit began with attendance at the Zaporizhzhia NPP dry spent fuel storage.

The specialists of Zaporizhzhia NPP participated in the three-day international working meeting on “Increasing the capacity of existing WWER power units”, organized by the World Association of Nuclear Operators (WANO).

The event took place in the format of an online conference, the purpose of which was to exchange experience and knowledge gained by operating organizations and nuclear power plants in the field of increasing the capacity of existing NPPs with WWER reactors.
