Zaporizhzhia NPP Unit 5 is on the grid: +10 years of energy stability, + 700 additional MW in the unified power system of Ukraine

On January 15, 2021, at 00:24, after 274 days of comprehensive interim overhaul, during which all agreed measures were taken to extend the service life and increase the level of safety, Zaporizhzhia NPP Unit 5 was connected to the grid. Power ascension is underway.

“Currently, all 6 power units are in operation at Zaporizhzhia NPP. And there are no grid restrictions thanks to the commissioning of the 750 kV “Kakhovka” power line. The phrase “we provide the maximum” has lost its conventionality. A really new era in the history of Zaporizhzhia NPP has begun,” Acting General Manager of Zaporizhzhia NPP Yuriy Kulba commented on the event.

Unit 5 is connected to the grid on the basis of a license issued by the State Nuclear Regulation Inspectorate of Ukraine, which sets the date of the next periodic safety reassessment of the power unit - May 27, 2030.

The personnel of Zaporizhzhia NPP coped with the tasks in all important areas of the plant, and some ceremonial events were combined into a coherent picture, which perfectly demonstrates the final objective of this great work – improvement of safety and reliability of both Zaporizhzhia NPP and the unified power system of Ukraine.
