The IAEA scheduled inspection has started at Zaporizhzhia NPP

From November 3 to 15, 2020, the inspectors of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) are conducting a regular scheduled inspection of Unit 5, which is in the scheduled interim overhaul, and dry spent nuclear fuel storage (DSNFS).

At the power unit the IAEA inspectors will inspect nuclear materials in the spend pond before transferring spent fuel assemblies to the DSNFS site and maintenance of IAEA surveillance systems. At the storage site, the metal seals will be installed on ventilated storage containers and between the ventilated storage containers that will be received from Unit 5; and accounting, operational and reporting documents will be checked.

The inspection is carried out within the framework of the international Agreement between Ukraine and the IAEA for the implementation of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons.

The IAEA is the world's unique international inspector for nuclear safeguards and inspection of civil nuclear programs. The purpose of inspection is to prevent the transfer of nuclear materials used in nuclear facilities, located in 70 countries, for military purposes.
