The IAEA scheduled inspection has started at Zaporizhzhia NPP

From October 15 to 31, 2020, the inspectors of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) are conducting a regular scheduled inspection of Unit 2, which is in the scheduled interim overhaul, and dry spent nuclear fuel storage (DSNFS).

The IAEA inspectors will inspect the actual amount of nuclear materials available at the unit after transferring spent nuclear fuel containers for storage to the DSNFS, install seals on containers received from Unit 2 at the storage site, and check accounting, operational and reporting documents.

The inspection is carried out within the framework of the international Agreement between Ukraine and the IAEA for the implementation of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons.

The IAEA is the world's unique international inspector for nuclear safeguards and inspection of civil nuclear programs. The purpose of inspection is to prevent the transfer of nuclear materials used in nuclear facilities, located in 70 countries, for military purposes.
