A specialist of ZNPP participated in the WANO Forum at Paks Nuclear Power Plant, Hungary

Oleg Dereza, Lead instructor, Head of the Training Center Service of Process Control System and Electrical Equipment, a representative of Zaporizhzhia NPP, participated in the WANO Forum held at Paks Nuclear Power Plant, Hungary. The main topic of the meeting was dedicated to selection and training of the personnel for the nuclear power plants under construction.

With the WANO support, the management of Paks Nuclear Power Plant gathered representatives of the training centers of nuclear power plants of Ukraine, Russia, Slovakia, Belarus, the Czech Republic and Bulgaria to share their experience in the area of personnel training. The issues discussed during the international working meeting were not chosen by chance, because Hungary plans to build two new WWER-1200 units at Paks-2 NPP in the nearest future.

During the meeting, Oleg Dereza presented a report on the possibilities of a training complex for maintenance personnel special training at Zaporizhzhia NPP Training Center. The presentation aroused great interest among all the attendees, as well as the possibility of trainees passing industrial work placement on the simulator.

“Listening to the presentations of my colleagues and communicating with them, I have become convinced that all training centers use a systematic approach to personnel training, as well as take care of the safety culture and reliability of NPP operation. Analyzing the progress of the international working meeting, I have noted that in comparison with others, the ZNPP Maintenance Personnel Training Center has really unique capabilities,” said Oleg Dereza.

Paks-1 NPP is the only nuclear power plant; it operates four WWER-440 reactors, which were built in the 1980s. By 2030, these power units have to be decommissioned, so there is a need to replace existing facilities that produce 50% of the country's electricity.

Units 5 and 6 of Paks-2 NPP are planned to be built next to the first-phase units. In June 2019, the construction works started at the site. Along with the construction, the plant is already thinking of training personnel to work on new nuclear installations. Therefore, the current year the higher education institutions of Hungary have opened new faculties that will train specialists to work on the VVER-1200 units.
