The decision about construction of Zaporizhzhya NPP according to the standardized design of WWER-1000 nuclear power plants construction was taken by the USSR Soviet of Ministers.

1992

For the first time within the framework of the former USSR, the Full-Scope Simulator was put in operation for operations staff training.

1993

Establishment of Zaporizhzhya NPP Training Center.

1995

Zaporizhzhya NPP was the first among the nuclear power plants of CIS obtained the license for implementation of the utility functions.

Acquisition of the License from the Ministry of Ecological Safety of Ukraine for Unit 6 commissioning.

The International Institute of Finance and Economic Partnership made the decision to present to Zaporizhzhya NPP the award "Birmingham Torch" for successful economic survival and development in difficult conditions of incipient market relations in Ukraine.

Unit 6 physical startup.

Connection of Zaporizhzhya NPP Unit 6 – the first nuclear power unit in the independent Ukraine - to the grid. ZNPP total installed capacity reached 6000MW.

1996

The state enterprise "National Nuclear Energy Generated Company" was established, comprising Zaporizhzhya NPP.

2000

WANO Moscow Center Peer Review. By the results of Peer Review was underlined that the level of Zaporizhzhya NPP operation corresponds to the level of the best NPPs all over the world.

2001

Zaporizhzhya NPP was the first Ukrainian NPP in acquisition of the License from the Ministry of Ecological Safety of Ukraine dor operations staff training activities.

Acquisition of the License from the State Nuclear Regulatory Committee for the commissioning of the Dry Spent Fuel Storage (DSFS) facility.

Installation of the first cask with spent nuclear fuel on DSFS site.

Inauguration meeting dedicated to the DSFS experimental-commercial start-up.

2002

For the first time in CIS, "Koltso" information-measuring system, allowing continuous monitoring of radiation conditions within 30 km area around the nuclear power plant, was put in commercial operation.

Concrete casting of the first cask of native manufacture for the DSFS complex.

Inauguration of the Zaporizhzhya NPP Labour Glory Museum.

At the 1st International Conference "Safety Culture at the NPPs of Ukraine" Zaporizhzhya NPP was acknowledged the best nuclear power plant in Ukraine in relation to the safety culture.

2003

Zaporizhzhya NPP generated 500 milliard kWh of electric power from the beginning of its operation.

Power plants of Energodar node of the electric circuit "Zaporizhzhya NPP – Zaporizhzhya Thermal Plant" reached the total electric power output of 1 trillion kWh.

By the results of 2003. From the beginning of plant operation, Zaporizhzhya NPP staff reached the record year performance indicators – electric power output - 42.4 milliard kWh, installed capacity utilization factor increased up to 80.7 %. ZNPP was acknowledged as a leader of the Ukrainian Fuel and Energy Complex in the nomination "Enterprise (organization)".

2004

Unit 3 generated the 100th – milliard kWh from the beginning of plant operation.

Unit 2 generated the 100th – milliard kWh from the beginning of plant operation.

Unit 4 generated the 100th – milliard kWh from the beginning of plant operation.

ZNPP Full-Scope Simulator No.2 was put in operation.

"Gold Fortune" Diploma was awarded to Zaporizhzhya NPP for the real contribution to the strengthening of the Ukrainian State.

Unit 1 generated the 100th – milliard kWh from the beginning of plant operation.

125th OSART Mission for plant operational safety inspection by IAEA international experts. By expert opinion, the safety level meeting the world standards, is provided at Zaporizhzhya NPP.

At the 2nd International Conference “Safety Culture at the NPPs of Ukraine” Zaporizhzhya NPP was acknowledged again the best nuclear power plant in Ukraine in relation to the safety culture.

20 years from the beginning of Zaporizhzhya NPP operation.

2005

Inauguration of the 1st stage of the Victory Park laid in honor of the 60th anniversary of the 1941-1945 Great Patriotic War Victory.

Unit 5 generated the 100th – milliard kWh from the beginning of plant operation.

After successful acceptance tests, Unit 3 Full-Scope Simulator was officially transferred to Zaporizhzhya NPP.

Operation of the hundredth fuel charge started at Zaporizhzhya NPP.

The act about acceptance of radio-protective wall of DSFS complex for operation was signed.

2006

Inauguration of the hospital block of Zaporizhzhya NPP after-work sanatorium.

Inauguration of the 2nd stage of the Victory Park – the present of Zaporizhzhya NPP for veterans and all citizens.

Shipping of the thousandth spent fuel assembly at Zaporizhzhya NPP DSFS.

Inauguration of the arch at the entrance to the nuclear power plant territory on the eve of the Power Engineering Specialist’s Day at Zaporizhzhya NPP.

2007

WANO Peer Review Mission to ZNPP. By the review results, the team of international experts underlined that ZNPP and plant staff are at a high level of operation and safeguarding.

Zaporizhzhya NPP generated 700 milliard kWh of electric power from the beginning of its operation.

Zaporizhzhya NPP passed the 43 milliard kWh/year milestone of electric power generation for the overall plant operational time period.

2008

By WANO Moscow Center evaluation, Zaporizhzhya NPP was acknowledged the best one by eleven well-known indicators among the Moscow Center nuclear power plants.

At the IV International Scientific and Practical Conference for NPP Safety Culture Zaporizhzhya NPP was acknowledged the best one in relation to safety culture, and ZNPP Unit 5 – the best among 15 nuclear power units of Ukraine. Operations and Maintenance departments were acknowledged the best departments.

2009

Zaporizhzhya NPP passed a significant and important milestone of electric power generation from the beginning of its operation – generation of 750 milliard kWh.

25 years from the beginning of Zaporizhzhya NPP operation.

2010

Zaporizhzhya NPP generated 800 milliard kWh.

Unit 6 generated the 100th – milliard kWh from the beginning of plant operation.

At the V International Scientific and Practical Conference for NPP Safety Culture Zaporizhzhya NPP was acknowledged the best nuclear power plant in Ukraine in relation to the safety culture.

2011

Zaporizhzhya NPP achieved a new high level – generation of 850 milliard kWh of electric power from the beginning of its operation.

The 100th multi-assembly sealed basket was for DSFS cask produced at the non-standard equipment plant.

State Inspection of Nuclear and Radiation Safety of Ukraine issued the license for commissioning of the DSFS second stage.

2012

Zaporizhzhya NPP generated 900 milliard kWh of electric power from the beginning of its operation.

Zaporizhzhya NPP Unit 5 was acknowledged the best nuclear power plant in Ukraine in relation to the safety culture.

2013

WANO Moscow Center International Technical Support Mission, its main subject was concerned to safety culture issues.

Zaporizhzhya NPP, NNEGC "Energoatom" Directorate, Khmelnitsky NPP and Separated Entity "Atomenergomash" obtained from the certification authority TÜV Nord Cert (Germany) and Audit Group "TYuF Nord Ukraine" Ltd. the certificate of conformance to the requirements of the international standard ISO 9001:2008 (Quality Management System) and ISO 14001:2004 (Ecological management System).

Zaporizhzhya NPP generated 950 milliard kWh of electric power from the beginning of its operation.

2014

Inauguration of the clinical and diagnostic laboratory of Zaporizhzhya NPP after-work sanatorium. As for the scope of the proposed services, this laboratory is not inferior to major health resorts of Ukraine, but even superior to the majority of them.

Inauguration of the new Dispatch Center at Zaporizhzhya NPP. The Dispatch Center is equipped with modern equipment and communications; it is a complex of work and personal service rooms provided with all life support systems allowing to implement operatively any production tasks.

The international experts of WANO Moscow Center worked at Zaporizhzhya NPP for Follow-up Peer Review Mission. The review was conducted in ten directions: Management and Administration, Operations, Maintenance, Engineering Support, Operating Experience, Radiation Protection, Chemistry, Training and Qualification, Fire Protection, Emergency Preparedness.

In their closing speech the experts underlined that the safety standard of Zaporizhzhya NPP was raised at a high level. "The plant has become an example for imitation. Thank you very much for hospitality, openness, cooperation and polemics".

At the VII International Scientific and Practical Conference for NPP Safety Culture Zaporizhzhya NPP was acknowledged the best one in relation to safety culture among the nuclear power plants of Ukraine. ZNPP Unit 5 became the best in relation to safety culture.

30 years anniversary from the beginning of Zaporizhzhya NPP operation.

2015

Zaporizhzhya NPP generated 1 trillion kWh of electric power from the beginning of its operation. Zaporizhzhya NPP if the first one that achieved the mentioned result among thermal and nuclear power generation plants.

SE Zaporizhzhia NPP conducted joint command-staff exercises “Object-2015” to test readiness of forces and aids involved to provide physical protection and antiterrorist security.

SE Zaporizhzhia NPP applied to implement changes into license to extend power unit №1 operational lifetime.

SE Zaporizhzhia NPP applied to implement changes into license to extend power unit №2 operational lifetime.

SE Zaporizhzhia NPP conducted public meetings in format of public hearings and the public hearings in 7 inhabited localities situated in SE Zaporizhzhia NPP monitoring area to consider materials on ZNPP power unit №1 and unit №2 operational lifetime extension safety substantiation.

World Association of Nuclear Operators expert team worked at SE Zaporizhzhia NPP in frames of SE NNEGC “Energoatom” corporative peer review.

SE Zaporizhzhia NPP held scheduled emergency drill jointly with SE NNEGC “Energoatom” Directorate.

SE Zaporizhzhia NPP underwent second oversight audit on international requirements and norms of nuclear safety and environment protection to confirm correspondence of ZNPP Quality Management System to requirements of standards ISO 9001:2008 (international standard establishing requirements to Quality Management System) and ISO 14001: 2004 (international standard establishing requirements Environment Management System).

SE Zaporizhzhia NPP fulfilled planned objective for 2015 to generate 38 billion 447 million kWh.

2016

Memorial plaque devoted to Hero of Ukraine Oleksandr Lelechenko unveiled at SE Zaporizhzhia NPP Training Center Full-Scope Simulator building (Year 2016 is the 30th anniversary since the accident at Chernobyl NPP).

World Association of Nuclear Operators Technical Support Mission including Moscow Center and Paris Center representatives visited SE Zaporizhzhia NPP.

Delegation from Turkey arrived on the first visit to SE Zaporizhzhia NPP to consider possible options for cooperation in nuclear power generation area.

Consular delegation leaded by General Consul of Consulate General of the Republic of Poland in Ukraine Mr. Janusz Jablonski visited SE Zaporizhzhia NPP.

Visit of US DOE Deputy Minister Mr. Edward McGinnis to SE Zaporizhzhia NPP to discuss implementation of Westinghouse fuel (first load of Westinghouse fresh fuel at SE Zaporizhzhia NPP).

First six Westinghouse fuel assemblies (WRFA) were loaded into SE Zaporizhzhia NPP power unit №5 core. (Totally, 42 WRFAs were loaded into SE Zaporizhzhia NPP power unit №5 core in scope of the first batch).

State Nuclear Regulatory Inspectorate of Ukraine made a decision to extend SE Zaporizhzhia NPP power unit №1 operational lifetime till December 23, 2025.

After implementation of actions on nuclear installation operational lifetime extension, license on ZNPP power unit №1 operation till December 23, 2025 was solemnly presented by Chairman of State Nuclear Regulatory Inspectorate of Ukraine Mr. Sergiy Bozhko to the President of SE NNEGC “Energoatom” Mr. Yuriy Nedashkovskiy.

State Nuclear Regulatory Inspectorate of Ukraine issued license on SE Zaporizhzhia NPP power unit №1 operational lifetime extension till December 23, 2025. Based on the license SE Zaporizhzhia NPP power unit №1 was connected to the power grid.

State Nuclear Regulatory Inspectorate of Ukraine made a decision to extend SE Zaporizhzhia NPP power unit №2 operational lifetime till February 19, 2026.

SE Zaporizhzhia NPP conducted tactical exercises “Object-2016” to test effectiveness of SE Zaporizhzhia NPP site interaction plan.

State Nuclear Regulatory Inspectorate of Ukraine issued license on SE Zaporizhzhia NPP power unit №2 operational lifetime extension till February 19, 2026. Based on the license SE Zaporizhzhia NPP power unit №2 was connected to the power grid.

SE Zaporizhzhia NPP underwent WANO project-oriented peer review.

20th anniversary of SE NNEGC "Energoatom".

SE Zaporizhzhia NPP fulfilled planned objective for 2016 to generate 30 billion 413 million kWh.

2017

SE Zaporizhzhia NPP held VI Nuclear Summer School-2017 :”Youth and future of nuclear power industry” involving students and instructors for Ukrainian universities and Western Bohemia University (Czech Republic) to improve partnership between SE NNEGC “Energoatom” and universities, enhance approaches to train qualified personnel for Ukrainian nuclear power industry и to form positive image of the Company.

SE Zaporizhzhia NPP conducted public meetings in format of public hearings and the public hearings in 11 inhabited localities situated in SE Zaporizhzhia NPP monitoring area to consider materials on ZNPP power unit №3 operational lifetime extension safety substantiation.

Formal opening of unique Simulator Complex for nuclear power industry maintenance personnel training on the basis of SE Zaporizhzhia NPP Training Center (VVER-1000 power unit reactor facility full scope simulator).

Visit of Ankara University (Turkey) and National Technical University of Ukraine “Kyiv Polytechnic Institute n.a. Igor Sikorskiy” representatives to SE Zaporizhzhia NPP to consider ways for cooperation and possibilities for joint education of masters on “Nuclear Power Industry” specialization on the basis of SE Zaporizhzhia NPP Training Center.

State Nuclear Regulatory Inspectorate of Ukraine issued license on SE Zaporizhzhia NPP power unit №3 operational lifetime extension till February March 5, 2027. Based on the license SE Zaporizhzhia NPP power unit №3 was connected to the power grid.

After implementation of actions on nuclear installation operational lifetime extension, license on ZNPP power unit №3 operation till March 5, 2027 was solemnly presented by Chairman of State Nuclear Regulatory Inspectorate of Ukraine Mr. Grigoriy Plachkov to the President of SE NNEGC "Energoatom" Mr. Yuriy Nedashkovskiy.

Official visit of General Consul of Poland and representatives of Consulate General (Republic of Poland) to SE Zaporizhzhia NPP for familiarization tour. The delegation visited Simulator Complex for maintenance Personnel Special Training (building "G") of the Training Center.

25 years ago, November 20, 1992, the first full scope simulator (SE Zaporizhzhia NPP power unit №5 prototype) was commissioned into trial operation.

30th anniversary of SE Zaporizhzhia NPP power unit №4.

SE Zaporizhzhia NPP fulfilled planned objective for 2016 to generate 33 billion 020 million kWh.

Modern complex on radwaste processing commissioned into operation at SE Zaporizhzhia NPP.

Building works at extension area of SE Zaporizhzhia NPP Switch Yard-750 have been finished, the object commissioned into pilot operation. Thus, SE Zaporizhzhia NPP is ready to connection of the fourth electric power transmission line 750 kV "Kakhovska".

2018

WANO MC Technical Support Mission at SE Zaporizhzhia NPP. Topic of the mission: "Implementation of NPP uniform system on temporary modifications management".

SE Zaporizhzhia NPP obtained certificate from the State Nuclear Regulatory Inspectorate of Ukraine confirming preparedness of power unit №4 to operation in shutdown condition during beyond the design lifetime period.

WANO Follow-up Peer Review at SE Zaporizhzhia NPP. Purpose of the review was to assess how NPP implements recommendations issued during 2016 Peer Review corresponding to appropriate areas for improvement. SE Zaporizhzhia NPP activities proved positive. NPP transparency level during the follow-up mission was assessed as 97%.

SE Zaporizhzhia NPP commissioned test facility for pilot-operated valves (VVER-1000 power reactor Pressurizer Safety Valves) testing and adjustment. This facility is the only in Ukraine.

SE Zaporizhzhia NPP held scheduled meeting of operative committee on implementation of Westinghouse modified nuclear fuel (WRFA) at Ukrainian NPPs power units. Participants of the meeting were representatives of Westinghouse Electric (Asia) S.A. leaded by the President – CEO Jose Emeterio Gutierrez, representatives of State Nuclear Regulatory Inspectorate of Ukraine, SE NNEGC “Energoatom”, State Scientific and Technical Center on Nuclear and Radiation Safety, Ministry of Power and Coal Industry of Ukraine и Supreme Council of Ukraine.

SE Zaporizhzhia NPP founded Expert and Analytic Council which includes power industry engineers having great production experience and knowledge. The Council is leaded by Mr. Konstantin Bronnikov.

SE Zaporizhzhia NPP conducted public meetings in format of public hearings in 11 inhabited localities situated in SE Zaporizhzhia NPP monitoring area to consider materials on ZNPP power unit №4 operational lifetime extension safety substantiation.

First group of Chinese specialists form “Chengdy Hai Guang Nuclear Power Technology Service Co., Ltd” (Chengdy) passed training on the basis of SE Zaporizhzhia NPP industrial Simulator Complex for maintenance Personnel Special Training on technological process "VVER-1000 reactor dismantling and refueling".

Visit of representatives of machine building section of Ukrainian Committee on State Awards in Area of Science and Technology to SE Zaporizhzhia NPP to study works on “Development and implementation of nuclear power plant steam turbine condensers”. The works are nominated to State Awards in Area of Science and Technology for 2018.

SE Zaporizhzhia NPP held XV Ukrainian Conference on Nuclear Material Physical Protection, Accounting and Control.

State Nuclear Regulatory Inspectorate of Ukraine made a decision to extend SE Zaporizhzhia NPP power unit №4 operational lifetime and set April 4, 2028 as the following periodical safety reassessment date for the power unit.

SE Zaporizhzhia NPP obtained license on power unit №4 operational lifetime extension beyond the design lifetime.

State Nuclear Regulatory Inspectorate of Ukraine issued license on SE Zaporizhzhia NPP power unit №4 operational lifetime extension. Based on the license SE Zaporizhzhia NPP power unit №4 was connected to the power grid.

SE Zaporizhzhia NPP held WANO international workshop devoted to prospective and actual use of simulators for NPP and contractors’ maintenance personnel training. Participants of the workshop were representatives of WANO-MC, SE NNEGC "Energoatom", Ukrainian NPPs, NPP Kozloduy (Bulgaria), Tianwan NPP (China), Dukovany (Czech Republic), Mohovce (Slovak Republic), Armenian NPP and SE "Atomenergoremont".

The formal presentation of the Advanced Radwaste Tratment Complex took place at Zaporizhzhie NPP.

SE Zaporizhzhia NPP fulfilled planned objective for 2018 to generate 35 billion 472 million kWh

2019

The representatives of Jiangsu Nuclear Corporation “JNPC” visited the Zaporizhzhya NPP with prospective of further cooperation. The Training Centre for Maintenance Personnel of ZNPP Training Centre was the main subject of their interest. During their visit the colleagues from the People’s Republic of China received information about possibilities of the unique simulator complex and training programs available for the plant personnel.

At the IX International Scientific and Practical Conference on Safety Culture at NPPs the power unit 5 of Zaporizhzhya NPP was acknowledged as the best power unit on safety culture.

The delegation from the U.S. Department of Energy visited Zaporizhzhya NPP to discuss possible ways of cooperation in the field of physical protection of nuclear facility, in particular, SE “Zaporizhzhya NPP”.

The Zaporizhzhya NPP held a preliminary meeting on preparation for the OSART mission, which will take place at the plant site in May 2020. The meeting was attended by the IAEA senior nuclear safety officials.

The power unit 3 generated 200 billion kWh of electricity since the beginning of its operation.

At Zaporizhzhya NPP the representatives of the WANO Moscow Centre together with the ZNPP specialists conducted the training workshop on “Leadership in Nuclear Power Industry” for the senior and middle-level managers of NPPs, heads of subdivisions of operating organizations, as well as managers and instructors of training centres for the purpose of their training. The organizers and lecturers of the WANO Moscow Center, representatives of SE “NNEGC “Energoatom” headquarters, SE “Zaporizhzhya NPP”, SE “Rivne NPP”, SE “South Ukraine NPP”, SE “Khmelnytsky NPP”, as well as the WANO young generation movement participated in the training workshop at Zaporizhzhya NPP.

The power unit 4 generated 200 billion kWh of electricity since the beginning of its operation.
